Build Custom Create Forms for Users
Custom create forms can be added to eControl, which is usually done to provide a simpler input form or to support additional information fields when a Directory schema has been extended, or to support creating additional object types.Modifying the Default Create Forms
It is not recommended that an administrator modify the default create forms provided with eControl as they contain the attribute mappings to the most common input fields (attributes) used when creating user accounts or group objects. Instead, the recommended practise is to create a copy of a default form and modify as required.Build a New Create Form
In this example, we will create a simpler input form for Active Directory users that also supports a custom building access control application that is integrated into the Active Directory domain. The steps to build a new create form are:- Create a new form and copy the fields from one of the default forms
- Determine the Input Fields to add to the create form
- Modify the create form to include new input fields
Create a Copy of a Default Create Form
The easiest way to create a new form is to copy one of the default forms and then modify it to suite your needs:- In the "Manage Create Forms" window click the Add button in the "Forms" pane.
- In the "Add Form" window, provide a descriptive name for a new form, e.g. Users AD (Omni2003).
- Use the drop-down list to select a suitable default form, e.g. Users (Active Directory)
- Enter a description for this form (optional).
- Click the Add button.
Determine the Input Fields
The easiest method to examine and select input fields from one of the default create forms. For each field determine the correct Attribute name. To examine an existing default create form:- In the "Create" page of the Administration Panel, click the Manage Create Forms button.
- In the "Manage Create Forms" window, in the "Forms" section, use the drop-down button to select one of the default create foms, e.g. User (Active Directory).
- In the "Field Collections" section, select the Username field. The details for that field will appear in the "Details" section. Note that the Attribute name of the "Username" field is cn.
- Record all the fields and corresponding attribute names that you want to use in a new form.
Create a New Input Form
The easiest way to create a new form is to copy one of the default forms and then modify it to suite your needs:- In the "Manage Create Forms" window click the Add button in the "Forms" pane.
- In the "Add Form" window, provide a descriptive name for a new form, e.g. Users AD (Omni2003).
- Enter a description for this form (optional).
- Click the Add button.
- In the "Manage Create Forms" the Users AD (Omni2003) form should be in focus. If not, select it from the drop-down list in the "Forms" panel.
- In the "Field Collections" pane you can:
- Right-click the Users AD (Omni2003) root folder and choose to create a New Header.... Create all the new headers required for your form. A "Header" will appear as a collection of fields in a create form.
- Right-click a header and select:
- Create a new field
- Move the header up or down
- Remove the header
- Right-click an existing field and select (if you make a change to an existing field, click the Upodate button to save that change or it will be lost):
- Copy (to create a new field)
- Change Type (change the type of field from "Text" to another type)
- Move this field up or down the list
- Remove this field
- Adjust the current headers and fields to create the desired form.
- In our example, we will create a new header "Building Acccess Control" and two fields, "Access Card" and "Access Key" (Note: In our example, these fields and corresponding attribute names are fictitious).
- Click the Preview Form button to see how the input form will be displayed to eControl operators it is assigned to.
- Click Save to save the new create form.
